“We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feather so badly that beyond a doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form.”

A POEM
SHADOWS OF OAK & SYCAMORE
Stretch across the Hudson River
As far as North Dakota
What kind of bridge is this?
Part of it underwater
Most of it spray painted black
Look A rowboat Appears on the river
It’s Miss Marianne Moore whipping brown water
With a matched set of polished oars
Hewn Chiseled Carved from twin French doors
“Please You are only a sundial
Now go back home Right this instant
Quit pestering us good folks Thank you
We are here to harpoon some light
It’s the 4th of July all day”
