This Easter, we will all get to enjoy a little vacation from the doldrums of work life. While I am not excited about the over marketing of peeps marshmallows and adults in creepy bunny suits, it is a much needed break from the grind.
Speaking of the grind, it often makes you yearn for freedom, something that would allow your mind to drift into a daydream state of weightlessness where you’re gently moving across the stars, staring down into the heartbeat of the universe. Brendan Angelides, better known as Eskmo, can give you this very feeling.
Directed by Dugan O’Neal, Cloudlight tells a story of a man (played by Eskmo) who looks to be carrying out a loved one’s last wish.
Eskmo isn’t one of your typical electronic producers. Like a versed surgeon, Eskmo dissects hip-hop, glitch and dubstep and reconstructs them into a sound all his own. In one of his earliest productions, Machines on Task (1999), Eskmo doles out nuggets of audio goodness, composing what sounds like a playroom full of kids into a balanced beat.
His latest project is a testament to Eskmo’s evolution. Titled Earth and Word Mix, Eskmo lays airy chants reminiscent of 80s Irish singer, Enya, over a harmonic symphony of distorted horns, hum hugging strings, and bubbly drums. As the mix progresses, you begin to uncontrollably bounce to a concoction of rhythmic curves blended with colorful textures. Even the cover art, drawn by Trek Matthews, drives the feeling home with a great illustration of what looks like a Native American animal spirit perched on a celestial throne.
Like the cream in a Cadbury Egg, Eskmo will be treating his fans with a live show April 4th. If you are in the New York City area and would like to catch what is sure to be an audiorotic experience of a lifetime, click here . You might just bump into one of our staff members.
