Through his latest Rap Quotes project, artist Jay Shells has taken it upon himself to designate hip-hop’s lyrical landmarks placing official-looking street signs with geographical accuracy. We often hear rappers refer to their home turf in their songs, but Jay Shells give us a chance to see their surroundings through their eyes–sort of. New Yorkers walk by these locations everyday, but to rap fans who do not live in the city, this is a revealing experience.
The series features excerpts from Big L’s “Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous,” Mobb Deep’s “Give Up The Goods (Just Step),” Big Daddy Kane’s “Stop Shammin’,” Mos Def’s “Mathematics,” and more!

Quiet Lunch is a grassroot online publication that seeks to promote various aspects of life and culture with a loving, but brute, educational tinge. When we say, “Creative Sustenance Daily,” we mean it.
