After taking some time out to do it for the kids, Poppington is following up with an ill show by Das Racist member, Victor “Kool A.D.” Vasquez. Curated by Christopher Frierson, David Barnett, David Chang, and Derrick B. Harden, FREE SNIPES: OR HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE MONSANTO, takes inspiration from every corner of pop culture–from the Smurfs, Muppets, Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe, Garfield, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Arrested Development (the Proto-Neosoul rap group and the TV show) to the Black Panther Party, the Ku Klux Klan, the Sicilian Mafia and Santeria, to the iconic African-American jazz band 311, to television cooking shows, to the Department of Motor Vehicles, to pornography, to Al Jazeera.
Although this is only his second solo exhibition, it is looking to be his best yet. Opening reception is at 8 pm on June 5th at Poppington. See you there!
