Victoria Wagner‘s Woodrocks cultivates a blissful conceptual marriage between gem and wood, two organic materials with opposing aesthetics. The pieces have an air of alchemy, as if Wagner created these pieces through some kind of unearthly magic.
While our description of the series is a bit more “out there,” the inspiration behind the concept is far more down to Earth. Each hand-planed and shaped piece is cut from local downed trees. These organic sculptures are then finished by following organic growth patterns in oil paint.
