Chris Moon recently debuted his solo exhibition, Carousel, in Chelsea. Not a lot of artists have got the bullocks to debut during Armory Week but Moon, a British painter with brilliant creative ability and an infectious demeanor, slew nearly every giant in the valley with a luminous display of bleeding colors and resilient silhouettes.
Housed in an old building that was set to be demolished in the following week, the environment had a chic, visceral vibe–a proper thumbing of the nose at the stuffy atmospheres that were propped up elsewhere. Moon’s paintings were perfectly lit, DJ Franco V strung together a beautiful set that provoked impromptu dance numbers and the bar was overflowing with various hops and spirits. Moon made his rounds, sharing a few laughs with friends and chopping it up with inquisitive attendees.
The night was then capped off with a live performance by violinist Genevieve Varga. Varga played music she wrote that was inspired by watching Moon paint. Documentarian Jack Bond captured the process.
