We just caught wind that Brooklyn design + build furniture company UHURU has been experimenting with the centuries-old Japanese technique of shou sugi ban. Roughly translated to “burnt cedar boards,” shou sugi ban is an exterior siding technique that preserves wood by charring it, and emerged as the woodworker trend of 2013.
UHURU will debut a limited collection of pieces at ICFF this spring. Contact them for more details.
