The 25-year-old designer and blogger Charlie May has released an Autumn/ Winter collection of monochromatic proportions for London’s Fashion Week. May first received recognition via her blog Girl a la Mode, which she started in 2008 while attending the University of the West of England for Fashion Design, and is repeatedly named one of the top bloggers in the UK. While taking classes at the university she was able to get her hands dirty working with designer Louise Gray, and after college moved to London to work with Thomas Tait for two seasons.
Unlike most prominent designers, Charlie May already had a fan base of minimalist loving followers to tap into once her line was assembled in 2012. Her style is reminiscent of what is seen in her new A/W 2014 collection: black, navy, and white matched with wind swept skirts, fur trimmed collars and cuffs, with comfortable cuts. The collection was inspired by May’s hometown, Devon, where she was raised on a farm. The soft tones of the roll necks and knit embrace the masculine trench coats and beaver felt hats. This is a designer worth getting to know.
