The point of interest in Shawn Smith‘s work lies not in its detail, but in its sharp concepts and overall ambition. Using cubes of balsa wood, Smith creates pixelated sculptures that play a delightful trick on the eyes.

At first, Smith’s work looks almost digital. Pieces like Squish appear to be 16 bit renditions that have yet to properly load. Smith even goes a step further, occasionally pairing a distorted sculpture with a “normal” one. (see Anvil and Schrodinger’s Hat)
