Reemerging from a years-long hiatus, international pop star of the 80’s and early 90’s Neneh Cherry is back with an album of remixed and refurbished covers. The “Buffalo Stance” singer (and big sister to Eagle Eye Cherry) takes the concept of re-doing to an elevated level.
The Cherry Thing is a showcase and reminder of why Cherry is an artistic force to be reckoned with. She brings a subdued, self-made sultriness to the tracks; devout of all the gloss that normally comes with a studio produced album and laden with the homegrown, grassroots charm your ears can indulge on.
Take a listen to the full album, due out June 19th, at NPR and peep the blacked out video for her Madvillian/MF Doom cover of “Accordion” below.
