MUSIC REVIEW. | BIG BLUE MIXTAPE | GALEN JAMES.

In Audiorotic by Niki Gatewood

Pick the perfect adjective. Does innovative, daring, or honest best describe Galen James? The emerging artist has traded in the working lights of Ann Arbor’s for L.A.’s glitzy ones. Artistry is embedded into his DNA; he’s determined to ensure that time remembers his name.

Accompanied by his band, Compendium, Big Blue Mixtape explores what happens when Jazz taps Pop. This candid and retrospective endeavor chronicles the best of Galen James.  With the help of Doug Messenger, the tape trumps ordinary and heads toward great.

Starting with “African” and ending with “Yes,” the mixtape sets an organically brilliant atmosphere. Whether it’s the tenderness of “How To Find You,” or the yearnig of “Looking Back,” there’s plenty of satisfying tracks on BBM. The listener is left to determine which track is the best.
