Light Baths is a Brooklyn-based photography and projection installation series that transforms bodies and spaces through projected light patterns. Brooklyn artist Jarid Blue uses precision-mapped projections to create what he calls an “armor of artwork” – turning participants’ skin into illuminated canvases that empower new forms of self-expression. The work exists in two forms: the immediate, personal experience of becoming the artwork, and the photographs that serve as documentation of that transformation.
Since 2016, the project has evolved from intimate portrait sessions to encompass gallery exhibitions, performance collaborations, and large-scale installations across venues including House of Yes, 92nd Street Y, ChaShaMa, Button Studios, The Other Art Fair (Brooklyn and Los Angeles), and Miami’s Satellite Art Show.

Blue’s solo exhibition “Light Baths: Focus” at CIA Gallery in Ridgewood represents a turning point – rather than presenting entirely new work, the show curates pieces that demonstrate where Blue wants his practice to go. As the exhibition closes February 8th, Blue is offering one final opportunity for people to experience Light Baths firsthand: mini portrait sessions on Friday, February 6th where participants can step into the installation and create their own Light Bath portrait. The closing reception on Sunday, February 8th from 6-9pm marks the end of the show before the work comes down.
“Light Baths is about creating safe spaces where people can feel strong and confident in their bodies. The projected patterns act as an armor of artwork that helps participants express themselves more freely. The photographs I share are artifacts of that experience – tokens that remind people of their transformation and hopefully inspire viewers to see themselves in the work or try it themselves.”

“Light Baths: Focus” will be on display through the upcoming weekend with a closing reception on Sunday, February 8th (6-8 PM). In the meantime, Blue will holding private light bath sessions on February 6th and you can get your tickets HERE!
