An Homage to Colette the Artist | Curated by Gregory de La Haba & Lee Wells.

In an era where artistic expression can be found to be artistic regurgitant, it is a privilege to see a pioneer in all their glory. A true originist, art icon Colette Lumiere’s influences run so deep, that you wouldn’t even notice them upon first glance. From Madonna to Lady Gaga, Colette’s artistic efforts have birthed a generation of creative minds who are hellbent on breaking art’s boundaries–and whether or not they acknowledge that Colette is the mother of their universe makes no difference because her body of work is often too elusive and ever changing to pay homage to.

Nonetheless, the IFAC found a way to pinpoint Colette’s genius with An Homage to Colette the Artist. At the very top floor Colette sat in a transparent office, the C.I.A. for Colette Institute of Art Nomadic Office, which was off limit to the public. Working on something mysterious, Colette would occasionally emerge–floating through the crowd on a cloud of creative aura, greeting art enthusiasts as they marveled at her work, taking pictures and consulting with her C.I.A. agents.

In a way, Colette is a perpetual present day futurist. Her visions are usually embraced long after their debuts. This doesn’t mean that her work has gone underappreciated, but it does mean that she is a living breathing testament to creative foresight and artistic free will.
