Caruso’s Rescues.

This week Quiet Lunch headed over to the Sapphire Lounge on Eldridge Street to check to the work of Andrea Caruso — not to be confused with the male Italian artist of the same name, Andrea Caruso.

Caruso specializes in kitsch works. The term can be rather derogatory but when you meet Andrea and take a gander at her work, you can see that it is a badge that she wears with honor and a nonchalant sense of pride. When asked Caruso about the process of the works being displayed, she explained that she found the paintings on the street and then transformed them into customized masterpieces.

“I wish to take something forgotten, as in the case of the work in my art show which are mostly garbage and thrift store paintings and put my own warped twist on it. I also like glow in the dark and flourescent things so mostly everything reacts with blacklight.”

In all, Caruso gives these discarded works new life; a second chance at being. Be sure to head over to Sapphire Lounge and see the pieces for yourself.
